MY CHOICES
veronica_initial_pink10

I'm Veronica. I live in Ontario, Canada and for many years I owned the site palette-needle.com, which reflected my interests in painting, pen and ink and stitching. When I retired from the .com side of those pursuits I took the website down. There have been many requests for me to put the art work back on the web. The photographs in the ‘Brushes and Needles’ galleries are a small representation of my art. Some of the photographs have deteriorated and the majority of my works I never did photograph; it sold and I have no visual record.
My Choices means that whatever I have an interest in, I will put on this site. That will change from time to time and I may add or take down content as I play with experimental works for my own pleasure.
I paint in watercolour and sketch on location, Labrador in Canada and the Netherlands being my favourite inspirational locations where I have spent many months of many years and filled many notebooks with sketches and notes which take me back in time as no photograph can ever do. The notebooks are badly beaten up, but I treasure the marks and stains on the pages as reminders of locales I have visited. I don't paint from photographs, but from sketches and colour notes if I cannot paint on site so these notebooks are valuable to me and as I can no longer travel to the Netherlands and Ireland they are vital for any future works I do. My artwork is a source for designs for my stitching and I am a published member of the Needlework Designers of Canada.
On this site are a few of my photographs of Labrador, a province of Canada on the East Coast extending up into the Arctic, where I built a cabin and spent many years painting. I didn't have a good camera, and the one I had took rough treatment from the extreme cold and traveling in my boat and on my snowmobile and snowshoes, so the photographs are really my memories, rather than good photographs.
Another of my interests is genealogy, hunting for my ancestors-- The Ancients as I call them. My Mother doesn't find that label amusing. I’ll be making a genealogy section soon, hopefully.

Primarily, this site features windmills in the Netherlands and in Canada. I have a wealth of material on Canadian historic mills on file and will be adding it here as I find the time.
